Facilitation: Workshops & Training
BBFD works in partnership with clients to apply knowledge of the sector, global standards, policies and guidance, while seeking to understand the distinct organisational culture and ways of working. This approach ensures that all facilitation is designed to fit the context and also comply with sector standards.
BBFD believes that participatory, creative processes are the best way to learn. Although there are theoretical and procedural aspects of child protection, safeguarding or other programmatic or organisational themes that underpin any training, complex issues are often best explained and understood through activities that ask participants to grapple with real workplace challenges. For this reason, dynamic and interactive activities are employed to unravel learner’s experiences and help participants to find solutions. These principles are employed during virtual training whilst face to face training is not possible.
A portfolio of work supporting organisational reflection and change on race, power and privilege is emerging alongside learning events for child protection programming and safeguarding.
Workshops provide opportunities for groups to work together, share experiences, resolve questions and identify opportunities for change.
Training provides technical capacity development through knowledge and skills development.
Child Protection workshops and training available for violence against children, sexual and gender-based violence, psycho-social support, positive discipline and case management.
BBFD also designs and facilitates learning events that support child protection systems strengthening and social service workforce development.
Safeguarding workshops and training for international and national organisations to support leadership development, organisational change, compliance and awareness of international standards.
Angie thoughtfully facilitates learning events with boards, Ieaders, and teams. She also works with community members, children and adult programme participants.
“Throughout the 4 day training I was extremely grateful to you for your training materials – particularly the coherent manner in which they have been put together. Both the Facilitators' Manual and Participant Handout made the training simple and easy to follow. I’ve learned so much not only about safeguarding in a new context, but how to prepare to present at ease. I wanted to say a heartfelt thanks to you for all your hard work on these…this week reminded me why I work in the sector."

The following approach is proposed as a starting point for discussion with clients and seeks to:
1. Promote reflection;
2. Identify actions; and
3. Hold individuals and organisations accountable for their actions.
An understanding of race, power, privilege and intersecting identities will frame discussions around individual and organisational identity. Revan’s Action Learning approach may be applied. Lencioni’s (2002) five characteristics of high performing teams can provide a theoretical basis for addressing team dynamics - Trust, Conflict, Commitment, Accountability, and Results.
It is important to work with colleagues who identify as a member of a non-dominant race. It is also important to engage with the wider staff team as allies and understand and work with their perspectives. Finally, the leadership team must provide a clear strategic direction and role model the change that the organisation wants to achieve. Opportunities for dialogue across the organisation are crucial to achieve transformation.
